Port at Caticlan

From the airport, we had a very short ride to the port. We waited for a while at the office of the company who took care of our transfers. It was there where a port fee and environmental fee was collected. (I think this was collected from all visitors and was around PhP 50 each). I think this was just fair, if this was to be used for the upkeep and maintainance of the facilities. Our package already took care of it together with the fee for our boat ride. So we just proceeded to the port and found our way to our boat.

Caticlan Airport

The Airport at Caticlan was quite small. It is actually comparable to the airport at Cagayan de Oro.

It just took a short while to disembark, wait for the baggages, get our bag and then find our transfer/ ride. This was the advantage of riding in a small plane and travelling real light.

Landing in Caticlan (versus taking a flight to Aklan in a bigger plane) also saved us a lot of time because it was just a few minutes away from the port where we were going to ride a boat to Boracay Island. You can even take a tricycle to get there. But again, we were just greatly blessed with great weather. We could just imagine, that if it was raining, our ride would have been rough because the plane was small.

Flight to Boracay

Our flight to Boracay was slightly delayed because some passengers were late. There were only fewer passengers than the other flights because the plane was smaller, but still.... Well, thats the way it went. And though the plane was small, it was quite comfortable.

Despite the slight waiting time, we were soon on our way and we just sat back and as always, "enjoyed our trip".

The flight did not take that long. It was just about an hour and soon we saw the beaches and island.

BORACAY - Summer 2009

The rainy season came in early this year. We had scheduled a flight to Boracay on May 22 for a summer getaway but it had been raining the previous weeks already and the summer season was already declared over. Well, we were indeed blessed for that weekend, the weather was great! (The two weekends after we went, the rains were back).

Our PAL flight to Caticlan was scheduled at around 8 am. We left for the airport early and went to the New "PAL" International Airport (Naia 2) near the New Nayong Pilipino. It was there that we were informed that the PAL flights to Caticlan were to originate from the other "New" Airport at Nichols where we thought the only flights were the Cebu-Pacific flights. Luckily, we were early so we had plenty of time to go there.

The airport was nice, clean and spacious. We could say, it was up to par with other International Airports in the asean region and definitely much better than the old domestic airport.

It turned out that our PAL Express (Air Philippines) flight was cancelled but we were immediately booked for the next flight which was leaving just about half an hour later.

The stores, lounges and waiting areas were also nice. The difference maybe with the other airports, was that there were no the duty-free shops.

The boarding time was even a little earlier. We took a shuttle for a very short transfer to our plane which was smaller than the usual planes used for other local flights.
